Joe Biden announced today that he intends to nominate Monica M. Bertagnolli MD, FACS FASCO as the director of NIH.
Bertagnolli — a surgical oncologist — assumed the NCI director role in October, becoming the first woman to serve in that position.
If her nomination is confirmed by the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions, she will succeed Francis S. Collins, MD, Ph.D., the long-time NIH director who is retiring in December 2021.
“Dr. Bertagnolli is a scientist who has dedicated her career to pushing the boundaries and pioneering scientific discoveries.
