
According to a press release, Synapse Biomedical received FDA premarket approval for its NeuRx Diaphragm Pacing System. This system aids adults with spinal injuries who require ventilation to breath.
According to the release, NeuRx can imitate natural breathing by using negative pressure ventilation. The device can be used continuously for no less than 4 hours each day.
This treatment option is only available to patients who have four percutaneous intramuscular electrodes implanted into their diaphragm. The electrodes can be used to send electrical stimulation.
