JAMA Network Open published a study that found patients with schizophrenia had a higher rate of hip fractures and onset earlier than the general public.
Researchers found sex specific differences in age of onset, and the prevalence of hip fractures for patients with schizophrenia.
“Our findings have important implications for evaluating osteoporosis management and post-hip fracture outcomes for a disadvantaged subpopulation,” Hina Ansari, MSc, of the Institute of Health Policy at the University of Toronto, and colleagues wrote.
