SAN FRANCISCO — At the Arthroscopy Association of North America Annual Meeting, Miho J. Tanaka, MD, discussed acceptable variations and surgical techniques for medial patellofemoral complex reconstruction.

“In summary, [medial patellofemoral complex] anatomy is evolving and there are multiple technique options that exist for reconstruction,” Tanaka, associate professor of orthopedic surgery at Harvard Medical School and service director of the Women’s Sports Medicine Program at Massachusetts General Hospital, told Healio. “Regardless of the technique that is utilized, it should be anatomic, it should not be over tensioned and the need for a concurrent procedure should be identified and addressed to optimize outcomes in the treatment of patellar instability.”
