Physician group practices using bundled payment models to save on surgical costs

Research showed that participating physician group practices in a bundled-payment model had associated savings for surgical but no medical episodes, while hospitals with participating hospitals have savings on both surgical episodes and medical episodes.
Joshua M. Liao MD and MSc conducted a cohort analysis of 1,288,781 Medicare beneficiaries, who were treated for any of the 10 most-highly-billed episodes (five medical, five surgical) that were included in the Bundled Payments for Care Improvements (BPCI), initiative at a PGP or hospital between January 1, 2020 and May 31, 2030.
