VIDEO: Ahmad discusses surgical options for throwing athletes with elbow injuries

KOLOA, Hawaii — In this video from Orthopedics Today Hawaii, Christopher S. Ahmad, MD, spoke about ulnar collateral ligament reconstruction, also known as Tommy John surgery, in throwing athletes.
“Some athletes are candidates to avoid traditional Tommy John surgery, and they can have a repair operation. Instead of transplant surgery to reconstruct the ligament, we can repair the native ligament and put in what is called an internal brace to protect the elbow,” he said. “It acts like a seatbelt protecting the repair, and that allows for accelerated rehabilitation,”
