The beginning of 2013
Our team first met Jua in Bangkok, where he was living at a migrant settlement.
Jua, then 11 years old, came to Thailand in the company of his construction worker parents. It was only natural that he felt unsure and scared after being uprooted so abruptly from his life in Cambodia.
The life of a migrant is hard.
Many children—including Jua—don’t have the opportunity to attend school and are left to fend for themselves while their parents or other relatives work long, tiresome hours in construction.
The children are extremely vulnerable and at risk of being abused or trafficked.
Our team met Jua at outreach events on his migrant camp.
Our teammates also provided food and a place where children could play in a safe environment.
Jua was kind, shy, intelligent, and eager to learn. Growing up in Cambodia, Jua missed going to school. Pastor Somnang is our local leader from Phnom Penh. He visited Jua and other children at the migrant camp.
Jua is fond of saying, “Pastor Somnang started to pray for me.”
After assessing Jua’s living and family situation, our team invited Jua to live in the church home….
