The authors of the article Do patients with poor clinical outcomes improve after reverse total shoulder replacement? reported the outcomes achieved by 36 different surgeons using the Exactech Equinoxe reverse total shoulder arthroplasty (rTSA) in the treatment of shoulder osteoarthritis, cuff tear arthropathy, or rotator cuff tear.

The rTSAs of 292 out of 1477 (or 20%) were found to be faulty. The American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons’ (ASES), score of 58 or 65 points at 3 months after surgery, is a poor indicator for early shoulder recovery.

The ASES score of 77.3 was used to define persistently poor performance after 2 years. Early recovery predicted the two-year recovery. 61% of patients who had poor performance either at 3- or 6-months follow-up also had persistently bad performance at 2-years. If early poor performance was observed at both the 3- and 6-month follow up, then the rate of poor recovery at two years increased to 85%.

Multivariate analysis of logistic regression revealed that independent predictors were previous surgery in the…
