The U.S. Senate confirmed Monica M. Bertagnolli MD, FACS FASCO as the director of NIH today.
Bertagnolli — a surgical oncologist and past president of ASCO — has served as director of the NCI since October, becoming the first woman to serve in that position.
The Senate voted 62-336 to confirm her appointment as the 17th Director at the NIH.
