Shoulder Impingement Syndrome: Conquer the Pain and Reclaim Your Shoulder’s Freedom

The following is a brief introduction to the topic:

Subacromial Impingement Syndrome, or shoulder impingement syndrome as it is also called, occurs when the bursas and tendons in the shoulder are compressed, causing pain and restricted movement. This common condition affects many athletes and those who do repetitive overhead movements.

Causes

Shoulder impingement syndrome is caused by several factors:

  1. Increased Risk of Impingement with Repetitive Activities Above the Head: Activities such as swimming, throwing or painting that involve repetitive overhead movements increase the risk.
  1. Poor Posture: Slouching and supporting poor posture can alter the alignment of the joint at the shoulder, leading to impingement.
  1. Muscle Imbalances – Weaknesses or imbalances of the shoulder muscles can disrupt the normal mechanics of the joint, increasing the risk for impingement.
  1. Shoulder instability: Structures that stabilize the shoulder, like ligaments or tendon, which are compromised, can cause impingement.

Symptoms

Shoulder impingement symptoms include:

  1. Pain: Dull, dull shoulder pain that often extends down the arm. This pain worsens when you reach overhead or behind your back.
  1. Limitation of Range of Motion Impingement
