Study finds mismatch in TJA negotiated prices and care quality

Published results showed inconsistencies between the mean prices that insurers negotiate for total knee arthroplasty, and hospital-provided quality care.
Thompson Zhuang MD MBA and his colleagues analysed publicly available data from 18 hospitals of a single large regional health care system in order to evaluate the link between CMS hospital quality measures and TJA prices negotiated by insurers.
The study found that CMS quality measures included TJA specific complication rates and readmission rates, overall clinical outcomes as well as patient experience, safety, care process, efficiency, and patient experience. Researchers also included
