To Give and Receive the Same Support

As a young boy, Hunar* lived at a Back2Back partnering children’s home. When it became clear the home wasn’t in line with providing the same care Back2Back felt called to, the ministries went their separate ways. Shortly after, the former partnering home released the children back to their villages, but Back2Back stepped in to come alongside many of those children and their families.

Hunar mourned the loss of his father in 2015 and stood beside his mother as she became a widow and single mother of three. Eventually, she found work as a street cleaner in the city, and Hunar’s life trajectory changed when he and his two younger siblings came to stay full-time at Back2Back’s Samuel Suzuki Hope Campus.

His charm and fun energy draws people in. Hunar is a talented athlete, excelling in dance and cricket. His time on the Hope Campus built within Hunar a hunger for more than what he’d known, a desire to help those around him, and develop his voice to advocate for himself and others. After completing tenth class, Hunar joined two other young men from the campus in the city for Junior-College (the Indian equivalent of Junior and Senior years of High School.)

All three young men grew as they lived in a hostel with other boys their age and were more responsible for their free time and study time. Eventually, Hunar graciously accepted a place at Loyola Academy in their School of Psychology. He has completed the first of three years in the program.

Hunar has known both difficulty and loss, and wants to use his own experiences and what he is currently learning in University to become a Child Psychologist. Hunar credits Back2Back for the support he needed to get through the hard times and is hopeful to give the same support back.

This is the power of sponsorship and advocacy – young men and women learning to take their difficult moments and harness them to help impact the world.
